NLC Suspends Ongoing Strike Action In C/River



The Nigeria labour Congress NLC (Cross River State branch) has called of strike action embarked upon by the union since last week.

Cross River State NLC chairman, Comrade Ben Ukpekpi stated this in an interview with our correspondent Saturday while giving update of the labour union’s activities in Calabar.

According to a bulletin issued by the NLC’s leadership with a title “Suspension of Strike”, and made available to our correspondent in Calabar workers are to return back to their duty post.

A clause from the NLC’s bulletin reads,” All public/ civil servants are hereby are directed to resume work immediately”.

The NLC bulletin averred that arising from a meeting between the Cross River State Government and organized labour, ( NLC,TUC and JVC) on June 26, this year and July 2, 2020, the Cross River State Government agreed to commence phase of implementation of all deserved promotions to both state and Local Government staff.

The bulletin further maintained that Government had also agreed to commence screening and restoration of names dropped in September 2020.

Other agreement reached between the NLC and State Government that prompted the strike to be suspended, includes agreement by the state government to look into other items as contained in the demands made by the state branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC.

“Consequently, organized labour hereby suspends the ongoing strike from July 3rd, 2020 to give way for further discussion on the aforementioned items”. The NLC bulletin maintained.

By the bulletin, workers in the state who decided to down their tools since last week are to resume back to their duty post from Monday.
