INEC Insists Nasarawa Voters Must Use Face Masks, As Protest Rocks A/Ibom

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), yesterday, said that  that everybody including their officials and voters must use face masks during the forthcoming August 8, by-election to Nasarawa central state constituency, in Nasarawa State.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in the state, Uthman Ajidagba, made the disclosure at a stakeholders meeting with political parties, security agents and other stakeholders in Lafia.

According to him, the commission is determined to observe COVID-19 protocols setup by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) during the by-election and any other election that would be conducted while the pandemic lasts.

Also, as Akwa Ibom State inches towards another local government elections in the next few weeks, angry youths from Etim Ekpo local government area have taken to the streets, urging Governor Udom Emmanuel to follow the due process in the emergence of a new leadership in the councils.

The incumbent chairman, Hon. Udeme Wilson Eduo, who is serving out his three year tenure in December, after running the council under interim administration, it was gathered, is angling for what the angry youths described as “third term agenda”.

Addressing the crowd of protesters, a youth activist, Comrade Gentle Samuel, who led the protest, said, “It is time for the people of Etim Ekpo to breathe from the stranglehold of one man”.
