Director of grassroots sports development, ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Aare has urged Ibrahim Shehu Gusau-led Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) to apologise to the ministry for amicable resolution to the lingering leadership crisis rocking the athletics body.
The embattled AFN boss took the supervisory body (ministry) to court following his impeachment by the Olamide Geroge-led faction of AFN and got a favourable judgement from the FCT High Court which ruled in favour of Gusau. However, the ministry is challenging the judgement at the Court of Appeal.
Speaking on the popular Whatsapp platform, ‘FCT Football Update’, Aare said no effort should be spared in finding a lasting solution to the leadership crisis in AFN.
“All efforts shouldn’t be spared in finding a lasting solution to the crisis in AFN. Let the AFN go back to the ministry and apologise for their misdeeds,” Aare stated.
“There must be some mistakes that have must have been made in the past and for God’s sake, the sports ministry has been thrown into the limelight due to this situation. So, our board members should calm down as the sports ministry is not interested in fighting anybody that will do the right thing”.
The Lagos state born administrator further enjoined all sports federation’s boards to obey the rules and regulations binding the sector, saying the ministry has the right to call any erring member to order.
‘’The rules and regulations are meant to be obeyed as rational human beings. They said the international body will sanction us but today, the FIFA president, Infantino is been investigated according to the news we received by the Swiss authorities. So, why can’t we do the same thing here when we see anything going wrong”.
“We should stop all these unnecessary threats,” he warned.
