The Federal Government has commenced aggressive deployment of technological innovations for the transformation of the civil service sector.
This was made known by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan at the Award Ceremony of the Maiden Edition of the Federal Civil Service Innovation Competition 2020, in Abuja.
While revealing that technological innovations play a critical role in developing global economy, she said the federal government through the office of the head of service had adopted it as the strategy for repositioning the public service for efficiency. She said her office had concluded arrangement for the establishment of a Service Innovation department to pioneer innovations required for improved governance in the country.
“We have concluded arrangement on the establishment of the service innovations department in the office of the Head of Service of the Federation. This has informed government’s decision to give attention to this area. Realizing the importance of innovation in enhancing of its service delivery the office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation in line with what we have in the Federal Civil Service, is driving this initiative with passion”, she said.
In her response, the Permanent Secretary, Service Policies and Strategies Office, Dr. Magdalene Ajani said the competition was organised to encourage innovative culture in the Civil Service.
While reiterating that the COVID 19 pandemic has forced several new ways of doing things globally, she said the Nigerian public service sector won’t be found lagging behind in aspect of adopting to new technological innovations.
The competition had three best staff emerging from the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy and were respectively awarded monetary prices of N3m, N1.750m and N1m.
