The founder, Juli Education Foundation, Joy Ogiator has disclosed that her passion for less privileged children in the country has always spurred her to do more.
Ms Ogiator who said this in a chat with LEADERSHIP in Abuja yesterday, as part of activities to celebrate its second-year anniversary also shared her passion to empower the less privileged via her foundation.
On what motivated her to start this foundation, she said during her service year in 2016 at Government Secondary School Koroduma, One Man Village in Nasarawa State she noticed students were coming to school but not registered.
‘’I was a subject teacher in SS1 class. I observed that most of them wear uniforms come to school but they are not students as they could not afford the school’s registration fee which was just N9500. They were coming to school just to learn with no plans of writing WAEC or JAMB.
‘’I felt very touched and I had to register them in school, saw them through from SS1 to SS3. Bought JAMB form and registered them for WAEC. Some of them got admission and they are now in higher institutions across the country. Those that couldn’t get admission were enrolled in a computer academy. I couldn’t abandon my students after my service year.
‘’So, I decided to name the foundation after my mother Mrs Juliana Ogiator thus the name The Juli Education Foundation,’’ she said.
On how she has been running the foundation for two years, she said she works to fund the foundation, adding that she also uses her salary and other support from her family and friends to fund the foundation.
‘’This foundation has helped me to cut down my excesses. I save more in order to fund my foundation. I only get my most pressing needs. I don’t buy what I don’t desperately need.
‘’In five years’ time the first set of students we are training would have graduated from the university and served and we would have gotten more students enrolled in the university. We would have impacted more lives and empowered more youths to be financially independent with a variety of skills. Also, we would have executed multiple projects,’’ she added.
