All Progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain and former governorship candidate in Imo State, Uche Nwosu, has advised the Mai Mala Buni-headed APC Caretaker Committee to resolve the internal crisis in the party first before wooing new members.
Nwosu noted that entrenching peace within the party by reconciling aggrieved stakeholders will put it in a better footing to woo those that dumped the party.
He urged the party to put its house in order first before thinking of expanding it by bringing in more people, adding that it will be easier to bring back those that left the party after peace has returned.
“If the different factions in the party and the founding stakeholders are reconciled, collectively the party will now move to the next phase and bring back all those that left the party as a result of one reason or the other, not before”.
The Caretaker Committee is reported to have been reaching out to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, among others who dumped the party at he build up to the 2019 election.
But Nwosu insisted that trying to woo new members into the party without addressing the internal conflicts amounts to putting the cart before the horse.
According to him, “they should resolve the party crisis in Zamfara, Adamawa, Rivers and Imo States first but what they are interested is to bring new people, meanwhile those in the party are angry and bitter. They should look inward first before rushing outside.
“You have not met with people like Abubarkar Yari, Rotimi Amaechi and Magnus Abe in Rivers State, former Adamawa State governor Bindow Umaru and former Secretary to Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and Rochas Okorocha to reconcile the different factions, how can you bring in anyone when they know your house is not in order. You must put your house in order first before you venture out”.
He added that, “how can you go to Adamawa for instance and ask Atiku to join APC when the party is still in crisis in that state, or is it in Zamfara or Imo State that you can succeed in getting any big fish to join the party without putting your house in order first”.
