An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court sitting at Ibadan , on Wednesday ordered that a mechanic and his apprentice, who allegedly raped a hawker, be remanded in the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The police charged a mechanic, Musa Lamidi,32 and his apprentice, Gbemiro Ogunwamide, 25 with two counts of conspiracy and rape.
Magistrate Ibukun Osho, who did not take plea of Lamidi and Ogunwamide, ordered the police to return the case file to the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
Osho adjourned the matter until Oct. 27, for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Foluke Adedosu told the court that Lamidi and Ogunwamide allegedly conspired together to commit the offence.
Adedosu said Lamidi on July 14, at about 5.25 p.m. at Odo – Oba area, raped a 20-year-old woman palm-wine seller in his apprentice’ house.
She said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 357, 516 and punishable under section 358 of the Criminal Code Cap 38 Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State 2000.
NAN reports that section 358 of the Criminal Code stipulates life imprisonment with or without cane for anyone guilty of the offence.(NAN)
