Igbere TV Most Outstanding Humanitarian of the Year Award:
The nomination for the Igbere TV most outstanding humanitarian award for 2020 will be over in the next 48 hours or so and considering how the Corona pandemic changed the socio economic fabric of lots of countries this year as well as that of many households, the nomination seems to be an interesting one for Nigerians for those nominating and those that have been selected for nomination.
I have over the months written about the works of one of the nominees Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere the founder and General Overseer of the Omega Power Ministries OPM a man whom many have described as a man with a golden heart. Apostle Chinyere incidentally is the only Clergy to have been selected for nomination by the organisers of the award not because he is the richest but because of his uncommon knack for giving back what God has blessed him with, to the less privileged.
With all due respect to the nominees, I wish to state that if there is anybody that deserves to be given such award as a matter of right of first refusal, the Omega Power Ministries OPM Founder deserves the award and should as a matter of appreciation for his good works, get it.
I have stressed of the importance of juxtaposing the award with the pandemic that ravaged the finances of many families while the privileged gave excuses why they cannot help out. But this wasn’t the case with Apostle Chinyere. Other pastors far more richer and popular than him, boasting of palatial buildings and other earthly riches, were busy doing eye service donating billions to the government but this was not the case with Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere who was in the streets personally distributing palliatives to the poor. He was also reported to have donated a life support ambulance to the government to help in the fight against the covid 19. Unlike others, he did not give excuse why he should withhold giving. After all it was a rugged period for everybody especially for the church which was shut down for months rather it was as if something else was propelling him to give more to the less privileged at such trying and horrendous period.
I understand how rich all the nominees may be but I can’t recollect hearing or watching them engage in the kind of philanthropy which the Port Harcourt based man of God engaged in. Another area which voters for the award has to consider while nominating is in the area of who are beneficiaries of the Humanitarian gestures of the nominees? This is the area which Apostle Chinyere beats all of them.
The beneficiaries of the philanthropy of Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere are mostly the less privileged not from his Abia home state or members of the church or Igbos but all Nigerians from all works of life. Yorubas, Igbos, Hausas, Christians, Muslims, former sex workers, repented cultists and armed robbers etc have benefitted from his largesse.
I thank God Almighty for what he has used this man to do for the people; running free schools a record 16 and still counting, two free Hospitals that has recorded more than 1500 live births, more than a hundred students on scholarship abroad, a rehabilitation center as well as skill acquisition centre amongst so many schemes he is carrying out? Just some days back, he was reported to have gifted a plot of land each to all the 38 workers working at his residence in choice areas of Port Harcourt. Who can undertake such gigantic commitments especially at this trying period of Corona pandemic without complaining the way lots of wealthy men with government patronage are won’t to do today?
I want to use this opportunity to thank the organisers of the forthcoming award for what it will do in encouraging privileged persons to give back to the society. I also want to urge people to go all out to choose the best person who to me and many more that have intimated me on the person they have voted for who fortunately is Apostle Chinyere.
We need the kind of persons who encapsulates the teachings of Christ on giving and that man for now in Nigeria and Africa if not worldwide is the OPM General Overseer. As I have continually said, he deserves not only this award but he should likewise be given a national award by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the United Nations. This is a sure way of saying thank you to a man whom God has used to change the fortunes of many families for the better.
