Four members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State have reportedly lost their lives to a fatal motor accident along Oro-Omu-Aran road in Irepodun local government area of the state.
The deaths toll resulting from the Sunday evening accident was said to have risen to six yesterday.
An eyewitness account said that victims of the accident were members of the APC in the local government, who were on convoy to Oro town to celebrate the victory of the Saturday by-election for Ekiti/Isin/Oke Ero/Irepodun federal constituency, won by Tunji Olawuyi of the APC.
It was gathered that the crash occurred at Oke Onigbin area at about 6:00pm, when a Morano jeep tried to overtake a heavy truck on a single lane of Oro- Omu- Aran road and rammed into the bus conveying the APC members, resulting in a head on collision.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who confirmed the incident, however, said that no death was recorded on the scene of the accident.
He disclosed that many of the victims later died in hospital from severe injury sustained.
It was also gathered that many victims of the crash, who were in critical condition from injury sustained, were also taken to Landmark Health Centre, Omu Aran, and other nearby private hospitals.
Information had it that some of the victims included the APC Ward Women leader from Arandun, Segun Adewara and one Femi Olaoye.
The Kwara Chapter of the APC has condoled with families of its members who died in the auto accident.
In a statement issued in Ilorin, the state capital yesterday, the state chairman of the party, Hon. Bashir Bolarinwa, expressed shock and sadness at the death of the four APC members.
He prayed God to grant the families of the deceased the strength to bear their losses and also repose the souls of the deceased.
