A former deputy national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has asked Lagos State governor ,Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to rejuvenate sporting activities in the state, so that the state’s youths can be engaged in activities that help develop their talents.
Chief George made this statement in his office in Ikoyi, Lagos, on Thursday, while launching the first edition of the Under-15 Bode George Kids Cup 2025. He said that engagement in sporting activities was what Lagos was noted for in the past, and as a result, the state produced notable sporting stars.
He explained that it is disappointing that DUNV’s notable activities have now been neglected, which has forced the youth to engage in anti-social activities that are neither beneficial to them nor to society.
Chief George reminded the governor, who he said was also engaged in sporting activities in his youth, to revive sporting activities among the youths so that their talent could be tapped.
“I want to appeal to Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu to rejuvenate sporting activities among the young ones. I appeal to the person in charge of local government administration and sporting activities in the state to engage the youths, rather than allowing them to idle away, by initiating social activities that will attract the youth and encourage them to develop a greater interest in sports.
“Let it be an intentional development that will attract the youth. The elders in the society added value to us when we were growing up, “Chief George said.
Corroborating his view, former Communication Minister Gen. Tajudeen Olanrewaju (rtd) said rejuvenating sporting activities among the youth is critical, adding that reviving youth sports by George reminded him of his childhood, when he was growing up.
“Nothing is wrong in allowing the youth to play soccer, we don’t know what they can become in future. We need to encourage games like this, that is, developing soccer at the grassroots and other things that matter,” Olanrewaju said.
