Abductors Of Asaba Pastors Demand N100m Ransom

The abductors of two pastors of a new generation church in Asaba Delta State have established contact with the family members of the victims and are demanding a N100m ransom for their release. The two senior pastors identified as Daniel and Chris, were abducted by a six- man gang of kidnappers on their way to their church in Ugbolu community near Asaba on Thursday evening.

According to reports, they were accosted by the kidnappers in their car around Ugbolu -Illah road before the church where they ordered them into a waiting vehicle without plate number before they zoomed off. It was reliably gathered that the kidnap of the two pastors might be connected with the recent donation of some millions of money by some highly placed politician to the church.

The kidnappers according to a church member who spoke was willing to comment on the matter anonymously, said the kidnappers made contact with family of the victims early on Friday and demanded the said amount for their release, and a family member of one of the victims, Mrs. Mabel Atumah, also confirmed that contact has been made and ransom demanded. “We got a call from the kidnappers asking for N100m, where can the church or family members get such amount of money?”

A visit to the church revealed that members of the church have since began a series of fasting and praying while calling on God to intervene in the release of the pastors as well as pleading with the abductors to set the men of God free.

Confirming the incident, the police image-maker in the state, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, said the police was on the trail of the kidnappers and they will soon be brought to book.

Investigations have however revealed that no fewer than six pastors have been kidnapped in Asaba in the last two weeks and in all six cases, ransoms were paid subsequently and the victims released: a situation that now puts other pastors on the toes.
