The member representing Ohafia South in Abia State House of Assembly, Kalu Mba Nwoke, has engaged over 40 youths from the constituency as part of his empowerment programmes.
Nwoke disclosed this yesterday while speaking to LEADERSHIP in the state capital, Umuahia, adding that the youths were drawn from the five Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wards in the constituency.
“This is part of the packages I have for the youths primarily to take them away from the job market and the ills associated with unemployment. With time more will be engaged,” he said.
He also said that beside this he is looking at how to sponsor skills acquisition and empowerment programmes for youths in the constituency in line with his campaign promises.
The House committee chairman on environment and urban renewal, further said he is very mindful of the dire need for democracy dividends in the constituency which is the seat of Abia North senatorial district.
“Of course, in this regard I am on a familiar terrain. I can beat my chest and say in all sincerity that I have done it before successfully with evidence as councilor for Ohafor ward in Ohafia legislative council,” he said.
The past deputy leader of the council maintained that “the good thing about these lofty ideas, plans and programmes is that they are in conformity with my political party, the Labour Party.”
Appealing for the support of the people, the first term legislator assured that he would touch the lives of the constituents as never before.
Reacting to the engagement, his media and publicity aide, Nelson Anya, said the chairman’s commitment to empowering the people and the constituency goes beyond mere representation.
