As the count down to the 2017 famous Odi Ogori Ba Uge Festival begins, King Shine A. Apre of Odi Kingdom in Kolokuma-Opokuma Local Government Area (KOLGA) of Bayelsa State has appointed one of their illustrious sons, Prince Iwefa Aganaba as the Chairman of the Festival Organizing Committee.
Prince Iwefa, who is the last Son of the (Late) Kolokuma Monarch, HRM King Geoffrey Filinti Aganaba, Kala-Okun II, is a Human Resource Consultant and has represented the country on different national and international platforms as commonwealth liaison officer and a Special Adviser to the Vice President World Assembly of Youths.
This year’s Odi Ogori Festival will be an 11 days long cultural festival, Also, there will be a medical outreach, women –youths skill acquisition/enlightenment programs, exhibition of agro/agricultural produce, essay and quiz competitions for secondary schools, Awards, planting of trees and many side attractions and is billed to commence from the 27th of July 2017 through to August 6th,
The Festival which is 60yrs old this year (since 1957), is held annually to commemorate the killing of a monstrous Buffalo that became a menace to the Odi Community, killing people and destroying farmlands.
According to Prince Iwefa, the 60th Edition of the Odi Ogori Festival is going to be “Unique” because of the new innovations he will introduce to the Celebrations.
Prince Iwefa hinted that plans are underway to engage front line musical artist from the State and abroad, stressing the famous Owigiri love boat cruise, street carnival and beach party will feature some key innovations.
“We are going to engage top local and foreign artist to add glamour to the event, and for the first time we will be recording a full featured documentary of the Festival, with award winning Nollywood producers” he said. We will also have a Public Lecture with very notable resource personnel’s cut across all works of life to discuss the good of our people.
“I want to on behalf of the Odi Ogori festival organizing Committee, invite Tourist and Fun seekers to come for the Odi Ogori Festival, to “enrich their tourism experience by participating fully as everyday of the festival will be impactful with , carefully packaged innovations that have not been seen in previous events”.
He also used the occasion to call on Illustrious Sons and Daughters of Odi Community at home and abroad, the Bayelsa State and federal Government to support the Odi Ogori Festival to project one Nigeria for peace and unity with our diverse culture and traditions.
