International Association of Lions Club, Wuse chapter, has said preparation were in top gear to feed about 120,000 vulnerable and widow people across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The president of the association, Tola Jacob disclosed this during her inauguration as the 20th President of the association in Abuja yesterday said, when you feed people, you give them life because, after the pandemic, many people face pangs of hunger and displacement.
Jacob explained that we know that the government is trying but they cannot do it alone so we decided to feed 2000 people for the whole lionistic year and that is why we are here today to get support from people, individuals, parastatals and ministries.
She said, “We were able to feed 2000 people since July and we would continue to that God willing.”
Speaking on the other programs the association is working on, she said there are many children out there that have problems with their sight but you don’t know, and also cancer awareness.
“We have a program on vision, awareness on cancer, even paediatrics because there are children out there that have cancer you wouldn’t know until you get to the hospital, so we are creating awareness for parents to know what to see, and you raised the alarm on children.
“We know there is no treatment for cancer, we can only raise awareness that can sustain them and be happy before they go. We had cancer awareness last week, and we were able to tell women and, men what sign looks like.
We also take our awareness to school, market, to educate them on what to do and the sign of cancer and how to avoid cancer, treat and managed it at an early stage.
Speaking ahead of the 2023 election, she urged women to participate, stating that most women are vulnerable, widows so that we can help each other.
Jacob, however called for more members to fulfil the mission of the association and let’s do it together saying that, if you have today, you can help others and you never know how long that can go in their life.
