Bandits have killed five vigilantes and injured one at Udawa community in Chikun local government area of Kaduna State following an ambush of their vehicle.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the bandits attacked the vigilantes’ Hilux along Birnin Gwari Road while they were returning from Kaduna to Udawa around 5:30pm on Tuesday.
The chief Imam of Udawa community, Alhaji Hussain Iliyasu, who confirmed the killing to LEADERSHIP, said the “bandits attacked the vigilantes’ vehicle along Birnin Gwari Road, they were eight in number, the bandits killed five, injured one and 2 escaped.”
He said the injured Idris Abdullahi was receiving medical attention at a nearby hospital while the deceased were buried at 1:30pm yesterday.
Imam Iliyasu identified the five persons killed as Musa Suleiman, Ibrahim Lawal, Bashir Ibrahim, Saidu Sarki and Abdulsaam Haruna.
He therefore called on the government to end insecurity so that citizens will go about their normal businesses.
Bandits also killed a police inspector and abducted 23 people in separate attacks on Ungwan Maje and Ungwan Laka communities in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state.
The attacks took place in the early hours of yesterday. They were said to have shot sporadically as the villagers scampered for safety.
An eyewitness told TheCable that “the bandits first attacked Ungwan Maje, where they abducted 16 persons, majority of them women and children.
“The bandits later attacked Ungwan Laka, where a mobile police inspector, Joshua Markus, who came to visit his family from Rivers State was killed.
“The bandits abducted seven persons, including the wife and daughter of the deceased policeman.”
A retired military personnel, who is a resident of Ungwan Laka, was said to have narrowly escaped with his family. However, his car and motorcycle were burnt by the hoodlums.
The corpse of the police inspector was said to have been deposited at the Saint Gerald Catholic Hospital, Kaduna.
When contacted, Mohammad Jalige, the spokesman of the Kaduna state police command, said he was not aware of the incident.
He promised to make findings on the incident, but at the time of filing this report, he was yet to revert.
