The Bauchi State House of Assembly has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening staff capacity as part of efforts to enhance service delivery and legislative performance in the state.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of a two-day in-house training workshop for Assembly staff held at the Assembly’s Conference Hall on Thursday, the deputy Clerk, Alhaji Musa Yarima, described the initiative as a significant milestone in the Assembly’s drive for professionalism, discipline, and institutional excellence.
Yarima noted that the training, the first of its kind in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, reflects management’s determination to build a competent and effective workforce capable of supporting legislative duties.
He commended the department of administration and supplies and the training coordination team for their foresight and dedication in organising the workshop, and also appreciated the resource persons for sharing their expertise to strengthen legislative operations.
The deputy clerk urged participants to take full advantage of the sessions, emphasising that the knowledge and skills acquired should translate into improved coordination, communication, and productivity across departments and units of the Assembly.
In his remarks, the director of Administration and Supplies, Sama’ila Gwamna, described the workshop as a crucial step toward fortifying the administrative backbone of the legislature.
He noted that the efficiency of any legislative body depends largely on the quality of administrative support driving its activities, stressing that precision, professionalism, and coordination are indispensable to effective lawmaking.
Gwamna explained that the Department of Administration and Supplies, being the hub of personnel management and institutional services, recognises that no system can function optimally without a competent and well-trained workforce.
He revealed that the workshop was carefully structured to address key operational areas such as documentation and record management, interdepartmental coordination, official communication, and ethical conduct.
The director further commended the leadership of the Clerk of the House and the supportive disposition of Members of the 10th Assembly, noting that recent reforms within the legislature have brought remarkable transformation that requires sustained staff development to maintain progress.
In his welcome address, Adamu Yusuf, a staff officer of the Assembly, said the training sessions will combine theoretical insights with hands-on exercises, case studies, and interactive discussions to ensure practical learning outcomes.
Participants expressed optimism that the workshop would equip them with practical knowledge and skills to enhance productivity and strengthen institutional capacity within the Bauchi State House of Assembly.
