The Bassa-Nge community under the auspices of Bassa-Nge Development Union (BNDU), a socio-cultural umbrella body for the Bassa-Nges world-wide has reiterated it’s believe and commitment to the sovereignty of Nigeria as a country.
BNDU in a statement signed and issued by its National President, Comrade Ibrahim Yusuf Nda said, in view of her believe in one Nigeria, it therefore dissociates herself from the inclusion of Kogi State by extension Bassa local government where the Bassa-Nge people comes from in the map/struggle for the Biafra republic.
According to the statement, while right for self determination is a fundamental right, ways and process of achieving it must be without drum of war and the inclusion or otherwise of any part or group must be with the consent of that part or group.
Therefore “Bassa-Nge Development Union (BNDU) the socio-cultural umbrella union of Bassa-Nges world-wide hereby disassociate herself from the so-called republic of Biafra declared by the people of South Eastern states.
“We believe on the sovereignty , indivisible and indissoluble Nigeria. We are Nigerians and shall continue to remain in Nigeria.
“Our dissociation is sequel to the inclusion of Kogi state in the map/struggle for Biafra Republic, we have dissociated ourself in good fate and in the best interest of Nigeria whose independence was gotten on the hard struggle of our heroes past whose effort must be respected”.
The body also called on the various youth groups threatening the sovereignty of the country to tow the part of peace and dialogue as a means of settling grievances and in the interest of peaceful coexistence.
