Christians all over Borno State yesterday had a hitch-free Easter celebration with faithful moving to their places of worship without any security breach.
In Maiduguri precisely, most of the Churches visited were filled with members and clergies dancing to the rendition from the musical section.
In his homily, the parish priest of St Mary Catholic Church, Federal Low-Cost, Maiduguri, Rev Fr. Peter Uchebo, urged faithful to use the window of the Easter to return back to God, noting that Jesus Christ has won the victory over sin and evil on the cross.
In the gospel reading, Rev Uchebo urged faithful to emulate Mary Magdalene who was loved so much that she returned the love to Christ by going to annoint Christ in the tomb, but found the tomb empty following the resurrection of Christ from the dead, thus making her the first witness of the gospel of the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
“As early as possible, she moved to the grave of Christ to anoint the body of the Lord, and when she went she saw an empty tomb signifying that the lord has risen. Mary Magdalene then became the first witness of the resurrection of Christ who passed the message to the apostles and the world.
“When we trust in the Lord, the Lord shall suprise us. As Christians, we should use this period of Easter to reflect on some of our actions. We should learn to love and care for one another and trust in God for his mercies”, Uchebo said.
Similarly, at the Penticost Believer’s Convenant Church (PBCC City), the general overseer and the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Borno State chapter, Bishop Mohammed Williams Naga urged the congregation to imbibe the lessons of Easter such as love, tolerance and humility in their daily lives.
Bishop Naga equally urged Christians and Nigerians to use the period of the celebration to pray for the quick return of the only Dapshi Schoolgirl, Leah Sharibu, still in the custody of Boko Haram terroriststs.
Also at the Church Of Christ In All Nations (COCIN), the resident Pastor, Rev James Ibrahim, urged members to use the Easter celebration and pray for the quick return of peace in Borno.
He prayed God to expose all those responsible for the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno and Northeast even as he thanked God for the lives of those recently freed by the terroriststs.
