Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, has approved the appointment of Engr. Mohammed Wakil Machina, as the director-general of the newly established Yobe State Agency for the Great Green Wall (YGGW).
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Baba Malam Wali, said the appointment takes immediate effect.
This development follows the signing of the bill establishing the Yobe State Agency for the Great Green Wall which was earlier passed by the Yobe State House of Assembly.
The establishment of the agency reflects Governor Buni’s unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability, climate resilience, and the restoration of degraded lands across the Sahel region of the state.
The Yobe Agency for the Great Green Wall is expected to play a pivotal role in combating desertification, promoting afforestation, and supporting livelihood development in communities affected by environmental challenges.
Governor Buni, who has consistently demonstrated leadership in promoting ecological restoration and rural development, initiated the creation of the agency as part of his administration’s broader vision to align Yobe State with national and international environmental frameworks.
The state government said the appointment of Engr Mohammed Wakil Machina, a professional engineer and member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), underscores the administration’s focus on professionalism, competence and sustainability-driven governance.
