The federal government has set June, 2018 as the target for the complete rehabilitation and commencement of activities on the central rail line.
The was revealed by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, when he toured the central line linking Itakpe – Ajaokuta – Agbor – Warri rail line to assess the level of work yesterday.
The minister, who toured the abandoned Agbor Locomotive site which was started over 30 years ago, also toured the Abraka, rail line, where he stated that the projection of the federal government is to link the rail line from Itakpe to Abuja.
He also clarified that Julius Berger PLC, which is the original contractor handling the project from inception, will complete the facility work, while CCECC will carry out the rehabilitation of the tracks, which is about 120 to 150 kilometre per hour.
According to him, ”There are two phases of the contract, the first one was awarded in 1987 and we have a directive from the Federal Government that we must complete the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri rail line and it was put in this year’s budget. By the end of December last year, we had disbursed some money to the contractors; Julius Berger and others to commence work, so we have come to see how far.
