The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has apprehended two suspects for alleged motorcycle theft and illicit drug dealing in separate operations within Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesperson of the command, SC Ibrahim Abdullahi, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, said the arrests were made following credible intelligence under the leadership of the new State Commandant, Mohammed Agalama.
He identified one of the suspects as Usman Abdulhamid, 19, a resident of Yandanko, Panshekara, Kumbotso LGA, who was arrested at Sabuwar Jiddah, Yan Kusa, after allegedly stealing a motorcycle from an unsuspecting victim.
According to Abdullahi, the suspect confessed to being part of a syndicate that specializes in stealing and snatching motorcycles across various parts of Kano metropolis.
āDuring the operation, operatives recovered four motorcycles from the suspectāthree Jincheng and one Lifan Kumata modelsāwhile efforts are ongoing to apprehend two other accomplices currently at large,ā he said.
He added that the second suspect, identified as Salisu Abdullahi, 28, of Semegu in Kumbotso LGA, was arrested at Sabon Titin Dorayi for allegedly dealing in illicit drugs; recovering 1,000 pieces of Paxol 5mg tablets, 30 Pregabalin 300mg capsules, 170 Diazepam 10mg tablets, and one male sex enhancement pill from him.
While noting that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigation, the spokesperson stated that the arrests form part of the commandās broader strategy to combat criminal activities such as theft, drug trafficking, and vandalism that endanger public safety.
He further reaffirmed the commandās commitment to intensifying intelligence-led operations to ensure the safety of lives and property across the state.
