Akwa Ibom State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Ukachukwu Enoch Christopher, 49, a resident of Eket local government area who allegedly killed his wife and buried the corpse in a shallow grave in his compound.
The state police public relations officer, Odiko MacDon, in a statement he issued yesterday in Uyo, the state capital, said the police acted on information from some youths in the area to arrest Christopher.
He said the divisional police officer (DPO) of Eket Divisional Police Headquarters, CSP Sunday Digha and his team, arrested Christopher, founder of Omega World Global Ministry (Fellowship Church), who lives in Ikot Abia village in Eket local government area of Akwa Ibom State for murdering his wife, Mrs Patience Christopher, 40, a mother of five children.
MacDon said, “The suspect who had domestic differences with his wife, accused her of being the source of his numerous woes in life and infidelity, confessed to have beaten her to death as a result of the unresolved differences on June 9, 2021.
“In order to cover his tracks, he dug a shallow grave in his compound and buried her. The deceased’s corpse has been exhumed by the police and deposited in the mortuary for autopsy,” he said.
Meanwhile, the state commissioner of police, CP Andrew Amiengheme, has ordered the deputy commissioner of police (SCIID) to take over the matter for a discreet probe and assured the people that the suspect will be charged to court as soon as investigation is concluded.
The CP who is appalled by the action of the suspect has called on spouses to be amenable to tolerance and resolve domestic issues before they degenerate into violence.
