A group under the auspices of National Association of State Movements (NASM) has said if additional states are created as proposed in the constitution amendment, it will end marginalization of ethnic groups in the country.
This was contained in a statement signed by the national chairman of the group, Elder Emmanuel Adaelu which was made available to LEADERSHIP Weekend yesterday.
It said the creation of states would not only address the sufferings of the neglected and marginalized people, but would also douse the tension arising from those who feel cheated and down trodden.
According to the group, to sustain unity of the country, agitation of Nigerian citizens bordering on marginalization must be fully tackled.
“We expect the leaders of this nation, now and in the future to take the interest of all and sundry in this country as a primary responsibility. The state creation is the yearning and aspiration of majority of Nigerians.
“It is our view that it may interest our present leaders to note that creating more states as recommended and many others that may be recommended is part of the restructuring exercise,” it stated.
