About ten thousand of hectares of land has been acquired by the Cross River State Government for cocoa Cultivation in the state.
Special Adviser to Gov. Ben Ayade of Cross River State on Cocoa Development and Control, Dr. Oscar Ofuka stated this in Calabar shortly after he was conferred with award of honor by Shallom Church.
Presenting the award to Dr Ofuka, Barr. Bassey Mensah urged Ofuka not to relent with the humanitarian activities which Ofuka had been deeply engrossed.
Ofuka who tried to give a break down of the hectares of land acquired by the State Government under the leadership of Prof. Ben Ayade stressed,” We have developed a brand new estate of 3, 800 hectares of land at Akinosunbor in Akamkpa LGA of the state.
” Before we came on board, the state Cocoa estate was in comatose, but with hard work and sophisticated strategy, we acquired 10,000 hectares of land for expansion of the already existing estate which is in a state of moribund.
“The stems planted about 50 years ago by the late Dr. Michael Okpara are now only good for fire word.
” Its the reason that we are calling on Cocoa farmers Cross River State to embrace the new and improved variety which has a gestation period of 18 months so that they can turn around their fortunes”. Ofuka stated.
Ayade’s aide called Nigerians to return back to agriculture known to be the mainstay of the economy of Nigeria rather than roam the streets of the nation to look for white collar jobs that may hardly exist.
“This award of honor is dedicated to my boss Gov. Ben Ayade who gave me the platform to function, without him it couldn’t have been possible. He said.
In his remarks, another of the awardee, who also got award of honor alongside Dr. Ofuka,Engr. Michael Asuquo otherwise known as Faith Plant thanked the leadership of the church for honor done him and called on other wordy crossriverians to emulate Shallom church in honoring Nigerians who had done a lot in the promotion of mankind.
