Bauchi State governor, Mohammed Abubakar, has dismissed as unfair, claims by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, that he was using council chairmen to block the renovation of Mosques being funded by the Speaker in his constituency.
He said there is no truth in the allegation and that nothing could be farther from the truth than the allegations.
The governor, who was reacting to a media report credited to Dogara, decried the attempt by a section of the political class in the state to cast him in bad light, using newspaper headlines and stories that are at variance with the flourishing peace and ongoing developmental strides in Bauchi State.
He said, “There is absolutely no truth in the report credited to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, to the effect that I ordered the suspension of work on Mosque projects being financed by him in his constituency.
“I wonder why I should do that. As number one citizen of Bauchi State, I am the state’s Developer-in Chief and should gladly welcome any attempt by any individual or group at contributing his or her own quota to the good job that we are doing for the betterment of the people of the state”.
The governor advised the Speaker not to fall for the continued antics of some political jobbers.
He further said, “The issues which Rt. Hon. Dogara rushes to press with are those he could easily find answers to, if only he cares to cross check directly from me, as a stakeholder and a brother, or even from those who are sincerely on the ground in Bauchi State.
“Moreover, I am a Muslim! So, why on earth should I be averse to the renovation of Mosques?” He queried.
Abubakar expressed the need for a new leaf of collectivism to be turned for the overall good and benefits of the good people of Bauchi State.
The governor added: “I recently had cause to caution some of my senior aides for reacting in an unbefitting manner to the Speaker’s attributed public comments.”
He, therefore, called on Speaker Dogara and, indeed, all well meaning leaders in the state to join hands with him in positively moving the state forward.
