A Federal lawmaker, Mr Johnson Oghuma, on Thursday stated that 230 members of his constituents have been trained by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and other private organisations on various skills.
Oghuma who represents Etsako Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, disclosed this in a chat with newsmen on Wednesday in Benin.
He said aside his sponsorship of the training programme; he would also equip the trainees with various empowerment items of their trade after the training.
He said his decision to embark on the project was to bequeath a lasting dividend of democracy to members of his constituents.
According to him, “I reasoned that teaching my people how to fish with be more beneficial than giving them the fish. They are the reason for my being where I am and as such, their interest and well being is of great concern to me.
“I am not just stopping with this figure, more people will be trained on various skills in the next phase that is to come soon. Apart from the training they have been made to undergo, I have set aside fund to procure materials needed for them to start working with.”
Oghuma further said as part of his desire to make members of his constituent enjoy the dividends of democracy, he has influenced some vital projects to the constituency.
“The projects range from water project, construction of classroom blocks and electricity projects in various communities of the federal constituency. All this I have done in less than a year in office as member of the Green Chamber,” he said.
It would be recalled that Oghuma was elected a Member of the House of Representatives in 2017, following the election of the former Member, Mr Philip Shaibu, as deputy governor of Edo State in 2016.
