As the May 2018 primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Ekiti State governorship election draws near, one of the aspirants, Hon. Femi Bamisile, has promised the people of Ekiti purposeful governance if elected governor of the state.
Addressing party loyalists at the 2018 edition of his annual Easter Celebrations which he initiated during the era of Ekiti 13/13, the aspirant, a former speaker of the state house of assembly described himself as a grassroots man and promised to take governance to the poor and down trodden.
He said this is not the first time he was organizing such gathering, noting that it has been on for the past three years.
He said the event is not a show of strength, but to wine and dine with his supporters ahead of the primaries and expressed his happiness over the turnout of the Friends of BAFEM, saying that time has come for power to be taken to the door steps of the downtrodden and the less privileged.
“We have gone round the entire state three times since I declared my intention precisely on November 15, 2015, we have been to the less privileged, downtrodden and we want to make sure that the power is taking out of the government house to the grassroots,” he said.
“As a former speaker, I represent the entire state. I have worked with almost all the former governors, while other aspirants are my brothers and we interact often.”
The aspirant congratulated President Muhammadu Buhari on the success recorded in the release of some of the girls of Government Girls Science Technical College (GGSTC), Dapchi, who were abducted on February 19 2018
He described the release as an achievement for the present administration, and expressed optimisms that the remaining girls still in captivity would soon be released.
Bamisile, used the opportunity of the gathering to appeal to the security agencies to increase their surveillance and double their efforts at ensuring that the country was safe for all.
He urged those who wouldn’t see the good things happening in the Buhari-led administration to open their eyes wide to see the achievements recorded by the government.
Describing the abduction as unfortunate, Bamisile said that such incident could happen anywhere, urging Nigerians to be grateful and thank the creator for the kind of President the country has at this present time.
“Nobody would like to see people being murdered, houses being burnt and so on. But, I don’t think it is also right to say that the President is not doing much because he is Fulani. If the President were Ijaw or Urhobo or any other, would it be different?” he queried.
Party members, leaders and particularly, delegates that would determine the fate of the aspirants in the forthcoming primaries of the party in May attended the Easter feast.
The celebration was also attended by some members of Edo state House of Assembly led by the Leader of the House, Chris Okaeben.
Addressing the gathering, Mrs. Omotunde Fajuyi, who is the leader, planning, strategy and research, Team BAFEM, said the aspirant, who expressed his intention to vie for the governorship seat of the state precisely on November 15, 2015 started by appealing to the conscience of the people and told them the need to revive the party and make sure it took over the governorship seat in the state again.
He has been championing the call for a home-based candidate with cognate experience and who can wrestle and take over the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) adding that the team had concentrated on building an agenda for the people to know what they want and the best way to deliver on them.
“As things are now, we are putting together a realistic and workable agenda within the party manifesto. BAFEM, which means Best Assurance For Ekiti Masses is a grassroots politician, who knows the immediate needs of the people,” she said.
The Majority Leader, Edo House of Assembly, Hon. Chris Okaeben, who was also a former Commissioner for Youths and Sports, the Chairman of the occasion advised the gathering to rise up and say enough of oppression, now that Olufemi Bamisile has become a movement, not only in Ekiti, but Nigeria.
“I have seen the boldness of Bamisile and I want to implore you to support the movement in bringing the necessary change most desires in Ekiti.
“I want to urge you to show more commitment to this project, not because of our own, but for the future of our children and those yet unborn. The journey of a thousand miles starts with a step, I therefore want to charge us all to ensure that Olufemi Bamisile emerges the candidate of the APC in the forthcoming primaries. “
There were goodwill messages from Team Bafem groups from Akure, led by Biodun Ajayi, Lagos, headed by Mrs. Yinka Lawal and Abuja, under the leadership of Otunba Oke as well as supporters from all the local government areas in the state.
Mrs. Funke Owoseni from Ikole local government Team Bafem described Bamisile as the best of the aspirants, saying that he has all it takes to achieve success for the party.
“I’m not somebody who follow anyone dogmatically, I have searched and looked at all the aspirants, and most especially the circumstances we are in Ekiti, we can’t just pick anybody, but we need the person with the clout, charisma, name and integrity to take over the power from the PDP.
“To get power back is not always easy, especially from the kind of governor we have in Ekiti, but we have a tested, and trusted performer in the former speaker and we realise he is the man who can do this for us and that is why I’m giving my support to him.”
Addressing the gathering, the aspirant, Rt Hon. Olufemi Richard Bamisile,
