Al-Istiqama University, Kano has appointed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, as pioneer chancellor of the new private institution.
Emir Aminu was recently appointed to serve as the chancellor, University of Calabar, by the federal government .
Presenting the letter of appointment to the Emir yesterday at the palace, founder of the University, Sulaiman Abdulrahman Kawu Sumaila, disclosed that Emir Aminu Bayero is qualified and has the qualities of being appointed vice chancellor of the newly established ivory tower .
Abdulrahman, former special adviser to President Muhammad Buhari on National Assembly, matters explained that the Emir remains one of the topmost Northern traditional rulers with influence cut across the height and might in the country.
According to the proprietor of Al-Istiqama University, the management of the institution also cherished Alhaji Aminu’s contribution to education and human development, noting that his appointment will further enhance the mission of expanding the frontiers of knowledge of the teeming youths in Kano.
The former lawmaker, representing Takai/Sumaila Federal Constituency, also announced the 100 capacity female hostel at the university named after the mother of Emir Kano, Hajiya Asiya Bayero a.k.a (Mai Babban Daki).
In his acceptance, speech Emir of Kano, applauded the appointment while assuring the commitment to bring his worth of experience to bear.
Earlier, the pioneer vice chancellor of the university, Prof Salisu Shehu, said academic session would commence with 400 students already.
Salisu reminded that Al-Istiqama got National Universities Commission (NUC), professional approval in February, 2021, with 15 undergraduate programmes in three faculties of Basic and Health Science, Art, Social Sciences and Management Studies Science and Computing.
He called on all and sundry to embrace the newly established university for optimum productivity.
