Nigerian leaders have been urged to emulate the leadership style of the late premier of eastern region, Dr Michael Okpara, in order to bring lasting solutions to the pressing issues of the day.
Former senate president, Senator Bukola Saraki who gave the charge at the centenary celebration in honour of the late sage in Abuja said the country needed foresighted leaders who can speak to the future of Nigeria and bring out the best from citizens.
Saraki who was represented by Hon Ladi Hassan said the country needed more individuals like Michael Okpara who would approach governance with a clear vision and sign of unwavering courage to develop and execute policies to better the lives of all people.
Saraki stressed that such leaders must see development as a holistic undertaking that requires all hands to be on deck with the ability to see every area in Nigeria as one’s own constituency regardless of where one originally comes from.
He said Nigerians must be able to say of their leaders at all levels, that they advocate equality and also be able to ingrain a sense of duty in the next generation especially young Nigerians who must be able to look at their leaders in office and feel an intrinsic need to serve their communities with strength and might.
