Now that we’re all spending more time at home with our kids, it is an opportunity for you as a parent to educate your child in entertaining ways. Just a couple of days ago the lockdown was extended by an extra 4 weeks, this guide becomes more important to every parent who is stuck at home with their child/ward. Remember, kids can get easily bored when you try to teach them in a strict way. Besides, most kids have a maximum attention span of 15 minutes.

So, you need to be creative and educate your kids with fun-filled activities. This way, you can keep them occupied, and get more time to do some work from home. As schools are not allowed to keep their students due to the lockdown, the entire responsibility has been passed to the parents.

That said, we’ll make it easier for you and show you entertaining ways to educate your child during the lockdown. Since kids have very low attention span, these activities are geared to be fun and entertaining as a way to keep them hooked and learn whatever you’re teaching/showing.

Check them out below:

1. Learn a foreign language

You can build a multilingual household with the help of great resource tools like Gus on the Go, Little Pim, and Duolingo, to name a few. Just imagine your kids being able to speak languages other than what they are familiar with; it’s much fun and it is a great advantage for them later in life.

2. Learn an instrument

It’s so beautiful when kids play different instruments at home. You can encourage your child to pick a choice of instrument and help them learn from the scratch. You can buy these instruments online, and download a lot of resources, and videos, and you can subscribe to online tutorials.

Remember they are free from classroom activities, so now is a great time to help them know how to cook up beautiful melodies and rhythm.

3. Create crafts for people they miss

It’s not easy staying without friends and loved ones, and your kids are missing a lot of people while staying indoors. So you can help your kids keep the connection by asking them to create a drawing, card or craft for their friends and loved ones.

You can send their creation to the mailbox of people they want to reach. But ensure you drop a message for a voice or video call when they receive the craft. This way, your kids will connect and be proud of what they’re able to create.

4. Bake something

Kids are always excited to try baking. It doesn’t matter what you’re baking, as long as you allow them lick the sugary spoon, they are fine.

During this lockdown, you can help your kids try simple baking techniques eat their creation afterwards. It’s much fun for your kids because you’re there with them throughout the process. Who knows, they may just become good with making cakes for breakfast, lunch, and dessert.

5. Build dens with your kids

You’ll remember how interesting it used to be building a den as a child. It doesn’t really cost much; just some cushions, a table, and a sheet. This activity stretches your child’s imagination as they get a chance to decorate their own den using paints, felt shapes, glitter, fabrics, and more.

They get this adventurous feeling as they pretend to go camping, or keep warm inside their very own igloo.

To make it more entertaining, you could act like the scary animal on the outside of the tent. And you can make some animal shadows if you’ve got a torch.

6. Play skipping games

Kids love activities outdoors more than indoors, and it’s lovely if you have some outdoor space in your home. You can grab one or two skipping ropes and teach your child the skipping rhymes that you’re used to during your school days.

7. Dig a flower bud

You might have observed that kids love to get messy a lot of times, and instead of doing unproductive stuff, you can have them spend more time with you to add more flowers to your garden.

Maybe you’ve been looking for a chance to improve the look of your garden; you and your kids can do great wonders. Asides that, you’ll no doubt brighten up their day.

8. Digital learning

You can maximize a lot of fun digital learning platforms that are available this period to educate your child in an entertaining way. But you need to first create a space that will keep them focused without any distraction. Maybe a small table or desk, or a space on your dining table.

You can check out the following websites that offers interesting digital learning games:

• kids.nationalgeographic.com/games
• pbskids.org/games
• www.zappelin.nl/kinderspelletjes

9. Exercise together

One thing you should never forget is the need to stay fit while stuck at home. You can keep your kids entertained by having a joint exercise routine. Try simple yoga poses, sit-ups, squatting, etc. This way, you are not only getting your workout done, but also helping your kids release their energy.

You can try using YouTube for a training session or be the trainer yourself. This can be so much fun for your kids.

10. Wallpaper people

If you’ve got an old roll of paper or wallpaper, you can lie your little one on it and draw out their shape. Kids find this game very exciting as they can spend so much time coloring themselves. You can also give them a chance to wallpaper dad, mum, or other siblings.

11. Egg decorating

When kids hear that their annual Easter egg decoration competition is fast approaching at school, they get excited. But now that they are stuck at home, you can introduce this game to entertain them.

You can buy some craft sets or use some of your boil a couple of your precious groceries and get creative.

12. Drive-in movie

It is much fun building your won drive-in movie from the comfort of your home. You can turn a big cardboard box into a car for your kids, and they can paint it themselves.

Stick a cushion inside and a film on, and then give your kid some movie snacks, and that’s all to help them get that great feeling.

In summary kids don’t have to suffer loneliness and depression due to the current lockdown. So, it is your responsibility as a parent to educate them with entertaining activities. The ideas above are great to get you started today. Try them out and make your home a haven of excitement and fun.
