The Enugu State Government has announced new scholarship awards, offering opportunities for state indigenes at the undergraduate, postgraduate, and teacher education levels.

The scheme, approved by the Governor, Dr Peter Mbah, is being administered by the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board under the Ministry of Education.

The government, in a statement issued in Enugu on Thursday by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ndubueze Mbah, said the state government has opened a total of 1,600 scholarship slots, comprising 500 undergraduate scholarships, 1,000 scholarships for teachers, and 100 postgraduate scholarships for Master’s and PhD applicants in Nigerian institutions for the 2025 academic year.

Prof. Mbah noted that the Teachers’ Scholarship is targeted explicitly at indigenous teachers in Enugu State Government schools who wish to pursue Master’s degrees and are willing to serve in the state’s education system for ten years after completing their studies.

To qualify, applicants must be confirmed indigenes of Enugu State and must possess a valid admission into an approved programme for the 2025/2026 academic session. Required documents include an LGA identification letter, admission and acceptance letters, an attestation from a traditional ruler, and a passport photograph. Teachers must also provide their employment letters.

All documents must be uploaded online as a single PDF file, not exceeding 2MB, the Commissioner said.

Mbah explained that applications are to be submitted via https://apply.esselb.en.gov.ng, adding that the application window for undergraduate and postgraduate categories opens on November 14, 2025, and closes at 12:00 a.m. on November 28, 2025, while the Teachers’ Scholarship will close on December 8, 2025.

Prof. Mbah also announced that the scholarship examination will be conducted as an online computer-based test (CBT), allowing candidates to participate from any location with reliable internet access. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the online examination.

He encouraged visually impaired students and students with disabilities in 100 and 200 levels to apply, adding that applications will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis, and incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Prof. Mbah commended Governor Mbah for his sustained investment in the education sector and described the 2025 scholarship programme as part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening learning outcomes and expanding access to higher education in the state.
