The family of the kidnapped retired United States, Army Officer, Major Jide Ijadare, has been contacted by his abductors, LEADERSHIP gathered.
The kidnappers are demanding the sum of N20 million as a ransom to secure his release of the American returnee.
During the encounter with his abductors, a man was shot dead while Ijadare and one of his staff were whisked away to an unknown destination.
The incident occurred at Ijan Ekiti, Gbonyin Local Government area of Ekiti State, at the ex-military personnel’s palm-oil producing factory located along Ijan-Ise road around 2:05 pm on Tuesday.
A member of Ijadare’s family told LEADERSHIP via telephone, yesterday, that they contacted them and demanded the said ransom.
According to him, “Yes, they contacted one of the family members this morning (Wednesday) and made that demand.
“Though, the matter had been reported to the police since life was involved and they are also doing their bit to ensure that the abductors are released in time.”
The Police public relations officer, Ekiti Command, Mr. Sunday Abutu, however, said the command was not aware of any ransom being demanded by the abductors.
