The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) was among those honoured on Friday night in the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for its insightful commitment and dedication to sports development and reportage in the country.
The award, according to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Solomon Dalung, was to appreciate investors, media organisations and associations as well as active and retired athletes for their contribution to sports development.

“National Awards are not just for the politicians, but people in civil service that served the country meritorious ways.

“This Plague is presented to the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, FCT chapter by the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung in appreciation of SWAN’S insightful commitment and dedication to sports development and reportage,” Dalung said.

Reacting, the chairman of the FCT SWAN, Comrade Kayode Adeniyi, who was elated by the honour, said the daily activities of his members in covering, analysing and reporting sports in the country have finally been noticed and rewarded.

He said the award would go a long way to encourage the members to do better in the task of portraying Nigeria sports positively to the outside.
“On behalf of the executives and members of our great association, I say a very big thank you to the Minister for considering us for this award. This award will among other things help further cement our relationship with the ministry and encourage us to do more,” he said.
