Federal Gov’t Pays N5.12bn Pension Arrears To 90,689 Retirees

The Federal Government has paid the sum of N5.12 billion in pension arrears to 90,689 retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS), the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), has confirmed.

PTAD’s Head of Corporate Communications, Olugbenga Ajayi disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Abuja, saying the payment covered arrears across the four pension departments.

According to him, 8,626 retirees from the Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, and the Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD) received N276.032 million for one month’s arrears.

In the police pension department, 9,681 pensioners were paid N619.584 million covering two months’ arrears.

He added that 12,773 pensioners under the civil service pension department received N408.736 million for one month’s arrears, while 59,609 retirees from the parastatals’ pension department got N3.814.976 billion for two months’ arrears.

Ajayi said the payments underscore the administration’s commitment to pensioners’ welfare and its resolve to clear outstanding liabilities in line with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
