The International Federation of Women Lawyers, (FIDA), Ekiti State Chapter yesterday canvassed free education, from primary to tertiary level
for motherless children in the country.
FIDA Chairperson in the state, Mrs. Adefunke Anoma made the call in Ado Ekiti, while speaking at an end of year party organised for motherless children in Mosadoluwa
Child Care Centre, Basiri, Ado Ekiti.
She said, “Governments need to either cut to the barest minimum the cost of education for the children or make it free for them to be able to have education which is an important element in their development in life.
“It is not too much for the government to ensure free or reduced cost of education for these motherless and indigent children. The outcome and impact of lack of education for the children on the nation as a
whole cannot be easily quantified as it is resonant on security economy and total national development. I believe it is more cost effective in our collective interest to ensure less privileged children have education”
Anoma therefore appealed to government, individual and cooperate organizations to always put the love of the motherless babies on front burners at all times.
Earlier the Chairperson Planning Committee of the party, Mrs Bola Richard-Ajisafe said FIDA Ekiti put up the party to show love to children at the center and to teach the society the need to be make
the motherless children feel and know that they are also part of the society.
“We at FIDA are mothers and we feel for the motherless children, so we have decided to show our love and concern by providing for their needs in our own little way and celebrate the season with them in a bid to make them happy and feel important as part of the society.”
