The Gombe state Vanguard for Development has condemned in its entirety Thursday’s rancour at the Gombe state House of Assembly, which led to the hijacked of the mace by members of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The group described the incident as uncalled for and sad to the institution of democracy in the state and the country at large, stressing that. “The APC leadership is trying to plunge the state into chaos, disarray and total anarchy in the name of politics.”
In a statement issued on Saturday by the leader of the group Dahiru Hassan Kera, said the development is a bad omen for the country’s growing democracy and the peace being enjoyed in the state.
He said it was very unfortunate that with the level of development in the state political system, achieved as a result of the efforts of the present Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) administration led by Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo the incident of Thursday was a big set back.
“The present actions and political engagements by the APC branch in Gombe state under the watch of its leader, Danjuma Goje is prone to take us back to the olden and ugly trend of political barbarism and primitive culture of political bitterness.”
Kera who berated the situation called on security agencies to wade in and save the state political system from thuggery and violence.
“We in the Gombe state Vanguard for development condemn the ugly development as we call on all security agencies as to a matter of urgency checkmate the activities of the APC in the state with a view to curtail a further breakdown of law and order.”
“We believe that with this situation, danger looms for our hard earned democracy and the peace being enjoy in the state which must not be allowed, It must be protected by all.” “The recent invasion of the state Assembly by Goje’s loyalists who has bolted and hightailed with the Assembly’s mace must decisively dealt with by the leadership of the House while police must equally investigate the fracas and those found wanting must face the law of the land.”
“Gombe state is bigger than any individual interest and we cannot allow some disgruntled elements to create raunchy political scenes to perpetuate an orchestrated evils machination capable of nose diving and belly flopping the state into rancour and animosity for cheap political gains.”
It would be recalled that some minority members of the state Assembly took away the mace during plenary on Thursday while resisting attempts to impeach the house minority leader in a PDP dominated house of 16 against 8 APC members.
