The Gombe state government has secured an operational license from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish Lincoln University Malaysia’s Kumo Campus through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiative.
The license was received on Monday, November 10, by Deputy Governor Manassah Daniel Jatau at the NUC Headquarters in Abuja.
The PPP aims to strengthen collaboration between government and private institutions in delivering quality education, infrastructure, and sustainable development.
Speaking while receiving the certificate, Jatau thanked president Bola Tinubu, the minister of education, and the NUC for approving the institution.
Jatau highlighted the administration’s ambition to make Gombe State an educational hub in the North-East, stressing the need for universities to conduct practical research addressing socio-economic challenges.
He urged Lincoln University management to prioritize community based research that benefits Gombe State, the north east region, and Nigeria at large.
The NUC executive secretary, Yusuf Abdullahi Ribadu, congratulated the delegation and emphasized that Lincoln University Kumo Campus should maintain the high academic standards of its main campus in Malaysia.
The license was granted under the Transnational Education (TNE) programme, which allows foreign universities to operate in Nigeria through collaborative partnerships.
Lincoln University Kumo Campus has received approval to launch three faculties: Faculty of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Science and Computing, Faculty of Management and Social Sciences.
The delegation included key officials from Lincoln University Malaysia, Gombe State University, and former state education commissioners.
Academic activities at the Kumo campus may commence immediately or at a convenient time.
Jatau reaffirmed the government’s commitment to making Gombe a center for learning, research, and innovation in the north east.
