Gombe State has emerged overall winner of the North East Zonal Quiz Competition organised by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS).
The competition, held at the Education Resource Centre (ERC) in Bauchi, is part of NILDS’ initiative to promote civic education and deepen understanding of democratic principles among young Nigerians.
The director-general of NILDS, Prof Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, said the annual quiz is designed to broaden students’ knowledge of legislative history, democratic practices, and governance.
Represented by Mr Jerimier Agadah, he noted that the competition plays a vital role in nurturing the next generation of informed citizens and leaders by strengthening their understanding of current affairs, communication, and governance processes.
For his part, the Bauchi State Commissioner for Education, Dr Muhammad Lawal Rimin-Zayam, commended NILDS for sustaining the initiative.
He described the inter-state contest as a laudable effort that fosters progress, peace, and unity among students and teachers across the North East.
Represented by the director of the Education Resource Centre, Mr. Kabiru Ahmad, Rimin-Zayam also appreciated the dedication of teachers and moderators who prepared the students for the 10th edition of the competition, reaffirming the Bauchi State Government’s commitment to revamping the education sector under the leadership of Governor Bala Abdulkadir Muhammad.
At the end of the contest, the Quiz Master, Mr Lucky Tongs, announced Gombe State as the overall winner, followed by Taraba State in second place and Yobe State in third.
The top-performing teams are expected to represent the North East at the forthcoming National Quiz Competition in Abuja.
Students from Bauchi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Taraba, and Adamawa states participated in this year’s NILDS North East Zonal Quiz Competition.
