A Federal Capital Territory residency group, “Amalgamated Dawaki Extension Resident Association (ADERA), has tasked corporate bodies, especially, construction companies, operating in the area, to up their social responsibility to the District.
The chairman of ADERA, Chukwudubem Egbunike, who doubles as the leader of Rockside Community in Dawaki, made this appeal during a press briefing in Abuja, yesterday.
Mr Egbunike said, the press conference was called to announce to the FCT minister and other residence of the FCT that, SCC, one of the companies, operating in his domain has constructed a two and half kilometer road as part of its corporate social responsibility to Dawaki District.
The press briefing, Mr Egbunike said, is also meant to clear the air on the status of the project. This is against the backdrop of the fact that some politicians are going around, parading themselves as the facilitators of the project in the 2017 budget.
He appealed to the FCT minister, Alhaji Muhammed Bello, who he described as a critical stakeholder, to find time to personally commission the project and also extend administrative commendation to SCC, as a way of encouraging it to do more. This, he said, will also entice other corporate bodies doing business in the FCT, to up their game in the area of corporate social responsibility.
On the immediate need of the District, Mr Egbunike said,
“The security situation in the area is deplorable and need urgent government attention. This sad development is orchestrated by absence of streetlights, which make residence vulnerable to the nefarious activities and street urchins, who disposes residence of their valuables at will.
“The corporate stakeholders operating in the District should partner ADERA in the area of provision streetlights, patrol vehicles and containers for the two police posts located in the area This will go a long way in improving the security situation in the area.”
Answering question on how the association intends to maintain the road, Pastor Yinka Adeoti, the chairman of Dextra Layout Residence Association said Adera is a responsible organization with significant amount in its purse to carryout maintenance, even, before the intervention of SCC.
“Apart from this tarred road constructed by SCC, there are feeder roads that the association has been maintaining year in year out because of erosion. We are very organized financially. Just like we have been maintaining other roads before this one, we will not deviate from our established tradition.”
ADERA seized the opportunity to thank the managing director of SCC Nigeria Limited, Mr Yuval Levy and the company’s chief operating officer in charge of Abuja and other management team.
