Miss Onisofie Owei, the reporter with the African Independent Television (AIT) was yesterday attacked by unknown gunmen and shot at close range after dispossessing her of mobile pone and valuables along the Edepie area of Yenagoa,the Bayelsa State capital.
Miss Owei, who is the AIT Correspondent attached to the State Government House, was attacked at about 10.30pm on saturday while returning home from a church service organised by the Living Faith church also known as Winners Chapel “Shilloh 2017”
Leadership gathered that armed men, suspected to be armed robbers, shot Owei at the back after collecting her phones and handbag. They left her in the pool of her blood.
It was gathered that a good samaritan and wife of the Vanguard Correspondent, Mrs. Oyadoghan arrived at the scene and rushed the victim to Tobis Hospital without knowing the identity and that she is a colleague to her husband.
“According to her, ” I got home at about 11pm and informed my family that I saw a lady calling for help along Edepie road covered in her pool of blood when I stopped to carry her to hospital.”
Some concerned colleague and members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), after a visit to the State Government House hospital, where she was rushed to confirmed that she is in a critical condition and could not talk.
Also on Tuesday another member of the Winners Chapel escaped being killed by some armed youths along the PDP road area of Yenizuegene area of the state capital. She was reported to have locked herself in her car and refused to come down when ordered by the gunmen.
The spokesman of the State Police Command, Asimin Butwat, confirmed the development and said assured that investigation into the incident will commence immediately.
