The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) was recently commended by a non-governmental organisation, Media Awareness Initiative for Hajj (MAI-HAJJ), for the extension of the period of registration to the end of April, 2018.
In a statement signed by the organisation’s national publicity officer, Muhammadu Kabir Yusuf, it said the decision by the commission to extend the period of registration is a step forward for Hajj operations in Nigeria. According to MAI-HAJJ, the gesture will give intending pilgrims, who are mostly farmers the opportunity to sell their products and make payment of this year’s exercise before the deadline.
It added that NAHCON would use the extension period to conclude further process for the announcement of 2018 Hajj fares and other sundry preparations. The statement also appealed to all intending pilgrims to take advantage of the grace period to register and pay the deposits before the announcement of the actual 2018 Hajj package.
“We in MAI-HAJJ wish to commend the efforts of NAHCON under the chairmanship of Alhaji Abdullahi Mukhtar for considering the extension of the registration deadline, so as to allow all intending pilgrims meet up with the modalities for this year’s hajj exercise,” said Yusuf.
Meanwhile, MAI-HAJJ also joined hands with NAHCON in appreciating the efforts of some states pilgrims welfare agencies and commissions for mobilising the prospective intending pilgrims to register adding that doing so would lead to successful preparations.
