Afrobeat singer Kaj Akinyede still revel in his extraordinary rise to fame after collaborating with 9ice, even as he works on an album that could be released before the end of the year or in early 2020.
“Sometimes, you hardly can tell which song will blow big, but while we were recording “Amope,” I knew we had struck gold because aside from the star power of 9ice, the song had a magical vibe” Kaj Akinyede recalled.
Speaking further, Kaj Akinyede, whose full name is Akinyede Kolawole Johnson, disclosed one of the challenges he faced as an Afrobeat singer, saying: “My difficulties are mostly with people who try to scam me in the name of promoting my music, because as an independent artist it is not that easy for people to support your music.”
The challenges nonetheless, Kaj Akinyede is not one to let go of his dreams so easily. “I really have a passion for music, aside from the fact that I went to a music school as well,” he explained.
Although from the start of his music career some eight years ago till date, he has not been signed to any record label, he is unperturbed and remain focused on his dream of becoming one of Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeat exports.
“Music means everything to me, therefore no challenge can make me abandon my dream. I am looking forward to having collaboration with a lot of the frontline guys of Afrobeat including Olamide, Wizkid, Davido, Fireboy and Teckno,” said Kaj Akinyede.
He further added: “My love for music is not about how long I have been in the game, but how effortless music comes out of me. I get inspiration every day, even when I am driving or taking a shower.”
