A grassroot, political savvy Hotelite, Babajide Ojerinde has revealed how he narrowly escaped death by yet-to-be identified gunmen in September 2016 despite several failed attempts since the general election of April 2015.
Mr Ojerinde, a manager with a top-notch hotel in Victoria Island part of Lagos State and one of the mobilizers that pioneered the election victory of Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu as he was declared the winner of Lagos State House of Assembly in 2015 Amuwo Odofin Constituency 1.
Mr Jide said the assassination attempts on him and his family are connected to his political involvement as He also recounts how his mother was killed by a hit-and-run murderer some years back shortly after joining the political party.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, he gave a detailed narration on what actually happened.
“As the Hotel manager of some of the top notch Hotels in Victoria Island with branches in Ikeja GRA axis. I was able to use my managerial position to influence the political benefit to campaign for Hon. Dipo Olorunrinu to win the Lagos State House of Assembly, Amuwo Odofin constituency 1
“On September 2, 2016, an assassination attempt made on my life which resulted in a highway chase (on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway, Ipaja axis) was quite unsuccessful and I was closer to death than I knew. My wife and I where in my SUV on that day.
“The unknown gunmen on witnessing the somersault of my car multiple times into a ditch on the expressway bunker, left us there thinking we were dead. It was only a miracle that we came out of that incidence alive. First responders to the scene were able to rush us to a nearby hospital. The Police confirmed my Black Crysler Pacifica SUV a total write off.
“My wife, Mrs Jola Ojerinde, was rescued unconscious, sustaining deep cuts on top left corner of her eyes, with severe burns on the right leg due to fire that enveloped the bonnet of the SUV, we were also sad when the doctor told us that we lost a 4months old pregnancy.
“I was rescued unconscious myself, having sustained multiple cuts on my face and deep cuts on the nose and a broken right (pinky) finger.” He said.
He also used the opportunity to thank Hon Olorunrinu for his assistance in paying some of the hospital bills. My wife and I received so many well wishes. We are still going through some rehabilitation recovery process. Please put my family in your prayers.
