The General Hospital in Ife-Olukotun, South East Yagba Local Government of Kogi State recently got a boost in its health care delivery when it received items worth over Five million naira (N5m) that were donated by the Abuja branch of the Ife Olukotun Descendant Union (IODU), an umbrella body of the development association in the town.
The concern for the branch to improve the facility in the hospital became imperative when the state of its health care delivery services became precarious when patients often die from lack of basic facilities like electricity supply, reagent for diagnostic tests, bed space, essential drugs and personnel.
Delivering the items to the hospital, the Chairman of the Ife Olukotun Descendant Union (IODU) Abuja branch, Dr Kehinde Mohammed reiterated the need for the branch to launch a campaign for donation when it was clear that government could no longer do it alone if lives must be saved in the community. According to him, the gesture was also to sustain the operational efficiency of the hospital and improve its capacity to cope with health care deliveries to other communities in the district who depends on the hospital for their primary healthcare.
Receiving the items on behalf of government was the State commissioner for Health, Dr Saka Haruna who represented the governor of the state Alh Yahaya Bello at the occasion. In his remarks, he praised the efforts of the community to improve on the health care facilities of their people and called for similar gestures in other communities while promising to escalate the idea to a workable model between communities and government in the state. He also on behalf of the government promised to bring doctors, nurses and other medical personnel to the hospital.
The occasion hosted by His Royal Majesty the Olukotun of Ife-Olukotun, Oba Shuaibu Aiyegbajeje Mohammed was witnessed by many dignitaries among which are Mr. Ephraim Amur Awaiye representing the Kogi State Secretary to Government, the Director General of NASDRA Mall Idris Musa who doubled as the National President of the Ife Olukotun Descendant Union( IODU), Hon, Leke Abejide representing Yagba Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representative represented by High Chief Samuel Adebola Gadafi, Dr. Zakari Usman Chief Medical Director Hospital Management Board Kogi State among other dignitaries.
