The Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has advocated special courts to deal with the menace of kidnapping in the country.
The IGP made the call at a dialogue session between him, INEC and CSOs, as part of activities to mark his one year in office.
“Penalties like death sentence will surely scare people from committing the nefarious act.
‘’This is because once arrested, the next for the suspect is the exit to his or her grave,’’ he added.
Idris further disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force was being proactive in dealing with the rising menace of kidnappings.
According to the IGP, the force would not rest on its oars until suspected kidnappers were rooted out of the nation.
Idris solicited the support of all Nigerians in dealing with criminals, as well as sustaining peace and unity in Nigeria.
On his first anniversary, the IGP expressed appreciation to God for making the period memorable.
He charged officers and men of the force nationwide to continue to live above board.
