The Imo State Police Commissioner, Abutu Yaro, has announced the arrest of an alleged notorious suspect known as ‘Match and Die’ in connection with the attack on the Owerri Correctional Centre in April.
According to him, Godwin Chukwuemeka, a former soldier, was nabbed from the ceiling of his house where he was hiding along the Owerri Nekede Axis.
A double barrel gun, pistol and military camouflage were recovered from the 35-year-old suspect.
In another development, the police commissioner has ordered erstwhile staff of the defunct Security Network to immediately return the firearms in their possession or risk arrest.
Abutu gave Wednesday, June 30, 2021 as deadline for the return of the firearms.
Members of the Imo Security Network during former governor Rochas Okorocha served as local vigilante operatives who helped to police the communities and sometimes gave tips for the arrest of suspected criminals.
