Inferno: FCT Minister Caution Residents Against Bush Burning

In a bid to ensure that incessant fire outbreaks which has become the order of the day in the country is halted the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mallam Muhammad Musa Bello, has cautioned residents of the territory against indiscriminate bush burning.

Bello gave the warning at the flag off campaign on indiscriminate bush burning, organised by the  FCT Fire  Service at the Etsu Garki Palace in Abuja Wednesday.

The Minister who was represented by the Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council (AMMC), Umar Shuaibu, appealed to the Royal father to take the warning to his subjects as people , especially farmers are set  to embark on another farming Season.

According to him, “The acts, not only have an effect on our property but also the ecosystem as it gradually build into the atmosphere thus leading to climate change. We are saying that activities of bush burning are wrong. ”

He said, “It is not even allowed. If we must have a bush burning practice, then it must be Controlled bush burning where you make sure that the area is localised.”

The Director of the FCT Fire Service, Assistant Controller General (ACG), Julius Opetunsin while urging farming community, traditional fathers and their subjects to desist from indiscriminate bush burning, said the reason for the sensitization is based on the fact that, fire outbreaks is still one of the leading disasters facing us.

He said, “In case you want to adopt bush burning approach as an alternative, let it be controlled burning so as to protect your property and that of your neighbour.

The Etsu Garki, Dr Usman Nga-Kupi who was represented by a retired deputy director, FCT Education Board, Jacob S. Garki commended the Fire service staff for the sensitization and urged the Service to create more sensitization programme in indeginous languages for the people.
