Those who are sceptical about the value of social media influencers have been reminded that influencers are the online equivalent of opinion leaders in society.
The assertion came from one of the highly sought-after Instagram influencers, Billion$baby.
“Influencers have large followership and they are authorities in certain areas and could dispense knowledge, informed opinion and sometimes new information. That is what makes them valuable,” he said.
Continuing, he said: “Just as it is in the society, people listen to opinion leaders, who could be political leaders or economic leaders. In the same way, in the vast virtual space of social media, influencers play the role of opinion leaders. So there is nothing morally wrong in being an influencer.”
Billion$baby, real name Nwaubani Ebube Clinton, the founder and CEO of BDB Luxury lifestyle fashion brand, gave examples of what he has done so far as an influencer. “I have worked with lifestyle and clothing brands like Wilo and a few others. but My job is to provide awareness for the brands, boosting their algorithm across their social media platforms as well,” he said.
Billion$baby, who is also an advocate of crypto, explained that since the world is going digital and all businesses are migrating online, it is to be expected that marketing of products and brands will become more intense on social media.
“This is where social media influencers come in. With the online cluttered with millions of brands, reaching potential customers can be problematic for some producers and markers, hence it makes sense to employ someone who has influence over his or her large followers and could easily convince them to give your product a try,” he explained.
Billion$baby added: “It is ignorance that makes people to question the value of influencer in the marketing of brands.”
