In a rare show of love and affection, Total E&P yesterday presented assorted food items to over one Hundred widows in Akwa Ibom state.
The event which took place at Abak local Government Area Hall was organized by the company to mark this year International Widows Day celebration.
Goodnews Mbonu, Head, Health and Women Development of Total E&p who presented the items said the Company in fulfillment of its community relations and corporate social responsibility organizes the event to identify with the widows and to assure them that they are not alone in their present condition.
He enjoined them to stop ruminating over what has happened in the past and urged them to take life as it comes, as God in his infinite wisdom has not abandon them.
“You all are now both father and mother to your children and you must do everything possible not to abandon them
We are aware that some of you may be facing terrible situation in your different homes after the demise of your husband’s but I want to assure you that Total E&P will always stand by you “he stated.
Mbonu advised them not to sit at home looking for handouts that might not come as expected but to take proper charge of their homes by engaging in one thing or the other in order to keep live going.
Items donated includes 100 bags of rice and 200 bags of Salt
One of the widows, Mrs. Grace Thompson David who spoke to our correspondent shortly after the event commended Total for remembering them especially during this hard period.
She however called on other corporate organizations operating in the state to follow the altruist example of Total E&P
