The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has commended the Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, over his readiness to ensure successful conduct of local government councils’ elections in the state.
IPAC in its extraordinary meeting held yesterday in Maiduguri said Governor Zulum must be commended by all true democrats in the state for his patriotism and commitment in organising the elections.
In his remarks, the state secretary of IPAC in Borno, Alhaji ABBA Modu, said the state has been waiting for the local government councils’ elections to be conducted for over 13 years.
“Therefore, the present administration must be commended and appreciated for its readiness to conduct councils’ elections. IPAC equally appreciates the Borno Independence Electoral Commission (BOSEIC) on the level of preparation for the local government councils’ elections in the state,” he added.
Modu said about 75 per cent of the political parties operating in the state have conducted their primary elections as scheduled by BOSIEC.
LEADERSHIP Weekend reports that local government council elections were conducted last in Borno State in 2007. Increased mass-casualty terror attacks, which started in 2009 were said to have led to the suspension of local councils’ polls in the state.
It was gathered that November 28, 2020, has been fixed for council elections while modalities have been put in place with the time table for the electoral processes.
